The Wheel
Background
The format for “The Wheel” was presented to us with the following question… “Michael [McIntyre] has a quiz idea but it needs a giant revolving LED floor. Can KPX help?”. The answer was ‘YES’ of course, and fortunately we had spent some R&D effort in the past on accurately mapping graphics based on rotary encoders. It was still a challenge though, delivering on the illusion of the LED floor spinning without any lag or drift, and calibrated to 5 arc minutes with accurate physical modelling and randomised spinning behaviour.

We’ve designed special overlays for the Expert touchscreens with braille and raised English characters. Cut-outs allow the player to press the touchscreen for their chosen answer. The use of shapes for the cut-outs follows the UK Government guidelines on “designing for accessibility” through the use of shapes, corner cut-outs and curves.
